Bombay High Court’s advice to Salman Khan’s neighbour! ‘Being on social media does not mean defaming anyone’

The Bombay High Court has made an important observation in the ongoing legal dispute between Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and his Panvel farmhouse neighbor Ketan Kakkar. The court has advised Ketan Kakkar to consider removing the defamatory posts and videos made against the actor on social media. The next hearing of this case has been fixed for July 6, 2026. Hearing the case, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh bluntly said that being on social media does not mean that anyone – even if he is a celebrity – should be made a victim of defamatory posts.

Ketan Kakkar had alleged that Salman Khan violated environmental norms during the construction of his farmhouse and obstructed the road leading to his house. At the same time, Salman Khan filed a defamation case in the court. He alleged that the videos and posts shared by Ketan Kakkar on social media were damaging his image and were communally inflammatory.
 

During the hearing, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh said that such disputes should be taken to the right legal forums instead of fighting on social media. He also suggested that Kakkar should consider deleting the tweets and videos related to the controversy. According to a report by ‘Bar & Bench’, the court expressed concern over the repeated spread of such content online and said that the court’s valuable time should not be wasted in deciding whether these videos should remain online or not.
