Ben Stokes’s career is in danger! ECB investigation after nightclub scandal, speculations about retirement intensify
England Test captain Ben Stokes is likely to announce his resignation from his post and retirement from international cricket following his alleged involvement in an incident at a nightclub.
The incident happened late on Sunday night, when England had registered a spectacular victory by defeating New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test match played at Lord’s Stadium.
According to a report in ‘Talksport’, Stokes may also say goodbye to cricket along with leaving the captaincy.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has started an investigation into the incident.
A rugby player is also said to be allegedly involved in this case.
The ECB said it was investigating a breach of team protocol following the end of the first Test against New Zealand. Stokes and Atkinson were present at the nightclub where the incident took place in the early hours of Monday.
The ECB said, “We are currently gathering additional information related to the case.” The team for the second Test will be announced in due course. Information about the matter has also been given to the ‘Cricket Regulator’ and further information will be shared once any update is received.”
Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison, however, defended Stokes and told ‘talksport’, “A decision should be taken only when all the facts of this case are known.” Stokes is a great player. He is an honest person and he himself would know whether he has crossed the limits or not.”
He said, “I am completely with him. When the facts come out, he will do what is right in the situation. I don’t have any problem with it. I have known Ben since he was 15 years old.”
Harmison boosted the morale of the players through team management Appealing to keep him, he said, “My biggest concern at this time is that Gus Atkinson and Stokes get full support and protection. It is the responsibility of the team to take care of their mental health also.
