PM Modi’s statement on US-Iran peace agreement, said- India is committed to stability in West Asia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the peace deal signed between the US and Iran and reiterated India’s appeal for peace and stability in West Asia. He also highlighted the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and expressed India’s hope to reach a durable and final agreement on remaining issues through dialogue.
Modi’s Statement on the Agreement
In his statement, Modi said, “I welcome the agreement reached between America and Iran to end the conflict in West Asia.” He emphasized that the conflict had caused severe economic disruption around the world and loss of life in many countries.
Trump Praises Historic Deal
US President Donald Trump praised the recently announced peace agreement on Sunday (local time), calling it a historic success. He stated that the agreement would bring “peace and security” to West Asia and help reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted the significance of the achievement, noting that previous US governments had failed to reach such an outcome with Iran. He wrote, “This wonderful agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region. Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, but all have failed before my arrival. For the first time, leaders in the region have a President who can help them achieve real peace.”
Reopening of Trade Routes and Oil Supply
Trump announced that after the deal is formally signed on Friday, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened along with demining operations. This will enable the resumption of two-way oil supplies to the region and the world.
Following Pakistan’s mediation and several rounds of talks, Trump declared the deal closed and authorized the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US Navy blockade. He said, “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
Iran Confirms Agreement and Sets Conditions
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the peace agreement and outlined Tehran’s conditions for pursuing negotiations. According to Iran’s state Press TV, the official signing ceremony will take place on Friday, after which the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be made public.
Gharibabadi stated that Iran would join the proposed 60-day negotiation process for a final agreement only after confirming that the US has fulfilled commitments related to ending hostilities, lifting the blockade, and releasing Iranian assets. He emphasized that Iran’s participation in the 60-day talks depends on these commitments being honored.
The Iranian official also noted that the agreement is the result of diplomatic efforts and Iran’s military achievements during the conflict.
