Despite leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to two consecutive IPL titles, Rajat Patidar has not been included in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 International series against Ireland and England. He was also not selected in the team for the Asian Games. His omission gained further attention as the selectors took several bold decisions, including appointing Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain. Suryakumar Yadav, who previously captained the team, was dropped from the team after a disappointing performance in the IPL season.

The Indian team is also focused on the future. 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been called into international cricket for the first time as preparations begin for major tournaments in the coming years, including the Los Angeles Olympics and the 2028 T20 World Cup. Tilak Verma has been appointed as the vice-captain, while Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi and Prince Yadav have also got a place in the team.

Meanwhile, it is believed that Patidar did not get a place in the 15-member squad because the team management was not fully confident in his performance with the bat. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar also accepted the challenge of many players waiting for their chance and said that at present there are equally talented cricketers in the team.
 

In the press conference, Agarkar said that we discuss many players. You don’t just sit and make a list of 15 names. There are very good players in India. If you have watched IPL or followed domestic cricket, then you will know many such players. Will be seen who are worthy of joining the team. But the players already in the team are also performing well. We won the World Cup some time ago. We think we’ve picked a very good team. Some players will not be able to make it to the team, but you can only select 15 players and we are very happy with this team.
