Real Madrid officially announce signing of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea
Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of defender Marc Cucurella on a contract until 2032. The Spanish club have not disclosed the transfer fee, but according to The Athletic, the deal is worth €60 million.
Madrid’s First Summer Signing
Cucurella becomes Madrid’s first official signing of the summer, although the club has reportedly reached agreements to sign Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. His arrival comes just a few days after Madrid confirmed the appointment of Jose Mourinho as the new head coach following the departure of Álvaro Arbeloa.
The Portuguese manager has played a crucial role in the club’s move for Cucurella, who is currently in the USA with Spain preparing for their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Cape Verde in Atlanta.
More Signings Expected
Defender Konaté and midfielder Silva are expected to follow when their contracts expire with Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively. Real Madrid are also planning to trigger a €20 million clause in Dumfries’ terms to sign the Inter Milan right-back.
Atlético Madrid and Barcelona were also in contact with Cucurella’s camp, and Diego Simeone’s side were considered favourites to close a deal, but Real Madrid moved quickly in the market.
Cucurella’s Chelsea Exit
Cucurella made appearances for Chelsea in the 2025-26 season and has criticised Chelsea’s decision to sack head coach Enzo Maresca. “If you asked me, I would not done it. You are fighting and training every day only to realise, at the very end, that when games matter, we are still a bit away from the top level,” he said after Chelsea were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League.
Overall, Cucurella made 150 appearances after arriving at Stamford Bridge from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022. He won the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025.
