Now ‘Make in India’ echoes in Europe too, agreement reached on Joint Defense Production with Slovakia.

India and Slovakia on Monday signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on defense cooperation, marking an important step towards strengthening strategic relations between the two countries. The agreement aims to promote joint development, joint production, and cooperation between the defense industries of both nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this during a joint press conference with Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava.

Strategic Partnership and Mutual Trust

PM Modi highlighted that the defense cooperation agreement reflects the high level of mutual trust and shared strategic thinking between India and Slovakia. He expressed his satisfaction with the signing, noting that it will give new impetus to joint development and production initiatives between the defense industries of both countries.

Prime Minister Fico reciprocated the sentiment, expressing his keen interest in cooperation within the defense industry sector. The two leaders emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy amid ongoing global challenges.

Labor Migration and Social Security

Beyond defense cooperation, PM Modi announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labor migration between the two countries to facilitate the movement of professionals and skilled workers. He further stated that India and Slovakia will soon finalize an additional MoU on Social Security to complement these efforts.

Elevation to Comprehensive Partnership

In a historic development, PM Modi announced the elevation of India-Slovakia relations to the level of “Comprehensive Partnership.” He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Fico, describing him as an experienced leader and true friend of India.

This marks the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia. PM Modi emphasized that the decision to elevate relations reflects the mutual trust, shared priorities, and common vision for the future that both nations hold.

Warm Reception and Joint Vision

Prime Minister Fico formally welcomed PM Modi in front of the historic Bratislava Castle, setting the stage for productive discussions. The two leaders explored ways to enhance cooperation and address shared priorities across multiple sectors including defense, trade, workforce mobility, and international affairs.

New Avenues for Defense Manufacturing

The Letter of Intent on defense cooperation is expected to open new avenues in defense manufacturing and technology, further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Slovakia. The agreement underscores India’s growing influence in the global defense sector, with ‘Make in India’ now resonating across Europe through joint defense production initiatives.
