Manav Suthar did wonders on Test Debut, created history by taking 6 wickets!

Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar performed brilliantly in international cricket by taking six wickets in his first Test match and bundled out Afghanistan for 152 runs and forced Afghanistan to follow-on on the third day of the one-off Test match played on Monday. The 23-year-old all-rounder from Rajasthan took 6 wickets for 33 runs in 22 overs and became the 10th bowler and seventh spinner for India to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

This decisive bowling of Suthar also got him a place in the record book. His figures are the second best by an Indian bowler on Test debut after Narendra Hirwani’s memorable 8 for 61 against the West Indies in 1988. Starting the day at 113 for 5, Afghanistan struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna gave the initial blow, dismissing Azmatullah Umarzai for zero, after which Suthar took control of the innings.

The left-arm spinner took three wickets in the morning session, first dismissing Sharfuddin Ashraf for 11 and then dismissing Afghanistan’s top scorer Rahmat Shah, who had toiled hard to score 60. After this, Suthar completed his first five-wicket haul by dismissing Mohammad Salim Safi LBW and then took another wicket to take the total to six. 
 

Afghanistan’s innings ended in just 58.4 overs, giving India a strong lead of 412 runs in the first innings. The host team immediately implemented the follow-on. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and supporting team members while returning to the dressing room after Suthar’s brilliant performance. Appreciated him. Suthar’s rise has been based on consistent good performances in domestic cricket. This Rajasthan cricketer has played 29 first-class matches, in which he has taken 129 wickets at an average of 25.76 and also scored 1,026 runs at an average of 25.65.
