Kathryn Bryce stars as Scotland beat Ireland by 40 runs to bag first win in Women’s T20 World Cup
New Delhi: Skipper Kathryn Brice slammed a sublime 60-run knock to help Scotland beat Ireland by 40 runs at Old Trafford in Manchester and record their first-ever win in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Brice’s half-century helped Scotland post a strong total of 161 runs on the board before the bowlers defended it successfully to help them make a winning start to their campaign in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Bryce’s 60 came off just 39 deliveries and was laced with six fours and a solitary six. She was well supported by wicket-keeper Sarah Bryce, who scored 49 off 35 balls. The duo combined to help Scotland recover from a poor start after they were asked to bat first at Old Trafford in their opening game of the tournament on Sunday.
Openers Darcey Carter (14) and Katherine Fraser (15) managed to add only 30 runs for the first wicket before getting dismissed in quick succession to leave Scotland reeling at 36/2 in the sixth over. Kathryn and Sarah then combined to share a magnificent 106-run stand for the third wicket to help Scotland post a strong total on the board.
Ava Canning was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland with a three-wicket haul, including the important wicket of Scotland skipper Kathryn and opener Fraser. It was expected to be a tight chase at Old Trafford, but the Scotland bowlers produced an exceptional combined effort to make the game a lop-sided affair.
