Gurbaz’s stormy century went in vain, Shubman Gill and the young bowlers defeated Afghanistan.
In the first ODI match between India and Afghanistan played in Dharamshala, the Indian team performed brilliantly and registered an easy victory. In this rain-affected match, both the teams got the opportunity to play 25 overs each, but the Indian players maintained their control over the match by playing better in every department.
After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill praised debutant fast bowler Gurnoor Brar and left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey. Both the players performed impressively in their first international match and played an important role in the team’s victory.
It is noteworthy that Gurnoor Brar caught everyone’s attention with his fast pace and accurate bowling in his very first match. He took 3 wickets for 27 runs. According to available information, the speed of his balls reached 147 kilometers per hour and he troubled the batsmen with both new and old balls. Especially in the last overs, his outward balls put the Afghan batsmen in trouble.
Whereas Harsh Dubey’s beginning was a bit difficult. He spent 16 runs in his first over, but despite this he did not lose confidence. He challenged the batsmen by continuously flying the ball and in the end took 3 wickets for 47 runs. Shubman Gill said that it was very impressive for Harsh not to change his approach despite the pressure in the debut match.
Let us tell you that Shubman Gill himself made an important contribution with the bat. He scored unbeaten 84 runs to take India to the target. Apart from this, he also performed brilliantly in fielding and took an excellent catch of Amir Mohammad Ghazanfar. When asked about this catch Gill said that he had been practicing taking catches in the slip for a long time and he was happy that he got a memorable catch this time.
Rohit Sharma’s run out was also a topic of discussion during the match. While attempting to score runs, a slight obstruction was created in the direction of the bowler, due to which Rohit was run out. However, Shubman Gill told that Rohit Sharma later watched the re-telecast and said that there is no problem regarding this incident.
For Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz batted explosively and scored 102 runs in 51 balls. His innings included 8 sixes and 8 fours. At one time it seemed that Afghanistan could score a big score, but the Indian bowlers made a brilliant comeback in the middle and final overs. Gill also praised Gurbaz’s innings, saying that he had tried his best to take the match away from India.
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi believed that his team was behind by at least 30 to 40 runs. He said that when he and Gurbaz were batting, the target of 220 to 230 runs seemed possible, but due to continuous fall of wickets the team came under pressure. Shahidi admitted that his team could not perform disciplined in bowling also.
It is noteworthy that this series is considered important for both the teams in terms of preparations for the upcoming big tournaments. After the victory in the first match, the Indian team looks full of confidence, while Afghanistan will try to make a comeback in the next match.
