Entry of 15 year old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Team India, Gavaskar said – exclude Sanju
Indian cricket’s legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has openly supported 15-year-old young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Gavaskar has appealed to the Indian team management to give this young player a chance to debut in international cricket in the two-match T20 series to be held on the upcoming Ireland tour. Gavaskar wants the team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir to rest the opening batsmen Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for one match each, so that Suryavanshi can get a place in the playing eleven.
Youngest player to join Team India
With the announcement of Team India on Saturday, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created history. He has become the youngest player from India to make it to the senior national team. Suryavanshi has received this award for his amazing performance in IPL 2026. In this season, he scored the maximum of 776 runs at a stormy strike rate of around 237 and won the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award. Gavaskar believes that after this magical game, the selectors had no other option but to include him in the team.
Gavaskar said, “This selection was fully expected. You yourself look at his form and the runs he scored. How can anyone keep him out of the team after such a stellar performance in the IPL? Good play deserves to be rewarded and the selectors have done exactly that.”
Advice to give rest to Sanju or Abhishek
According to Gavaskar, this short T20 series against Ireland is the best opportunity to test this young talent at the international level. While advocating the inclusion of Suryavanshi in the playing eleven, the former captain asked the coach and captain to adopt rotation policy. Have advised.
He further said, “I would definitely play him in the Ireland series and would like to see him bat. He can be tried in place of Sanju Samson or Abhishek Sharma. For example, in one match, Abhishek Sharma should be rested and in the other match, Sanju Samson should be rested and Suryavanshi should get a chance to open.”
