BCCI worried: Major changes possible in India-Ireland series after Belfast violence!

India’s tour of Ireland is set to take place in two weeks, and the BCCI is on ‘high alert’ in view of the alleged violence against migrants in Belfast. According to the report of ‘Dainik Jagran’, after several days of unrest in the city, the Board is keeping an eye on the security situation in Ireland and is ready to talk to ‘Cricket Ireland’ on the possibility of moving the match from Belfast to somewhere else. India is scheduled to play two T20I matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28, both of which will be held at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast. The report said that BCCI will rely on ‘Cricket Ireland’s assessment of the situation and will consider any proposal regarding venue or holding of matches if necessary.

BCCI worried: Major changes possible in India-Ireland series after Belfast violence!

The unrest in Belfast was sparked by a knife attack earlier this week that left a resident seriously injured. This led to what are being termed as ‘anti-immigration’ protests, which turned into violent clashes in many parts of the city. Vehicles were set on fire, government property was damaged and businesses were targeted during a major police operation to bring the situation under control. Several arrests have been made, while several police officers were injured during the unrest that lasted for several consecutive nights.

This situation has already affected cricket in the area. The Inter-Provincial T20 Festival in Lisbon has been canceled while Cricket Ireland will decide within the next 48 hours whether domestic Irish Senior Cup and National Cup matches scheduled to take place from June 14 will take place. Cricket Ireland addressed these concerns in an official statement. Agreed and said that he is in constant touch with the authorities. Cricket Ireland is monitoring the situation in the areas where there is ongoing unrest and will make a decision within the next 48 hours regarding this Sunday’s Irish Senior Cup and National Cup matches.

The statement said that we are in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities and our provincial associations. The safety and security of players, coaches, match officials and supporters is paramount in our discussions. More information will be shared as it becomes available. It is expected that Shreyas Iyer will make his debut as India’s T20I captain from the T20I series and this may also give the much-awaited opportunity to young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi to debut in senior international cricket.
