Don’t put pressure, he is only 15…, Sourav Ganguly asked for time for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has appealed to fans and experts to give time and space to talented 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi to develop after his historic selection in the national team. On 6 June, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Suryavanshi’s inclusion in the squad for the upcoming European tour, making him the youngest player ever to be selected for the Indian men’s team. This selection broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record, as Tendulkar had made his cricket debut in 1989 at the age of 16.

Addressing an event at Kabuni at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai on June 7, Ganguly acknowledged the increased focus on teenage players but also stressed the importance of letting them develop naturally. In a video shared by Kabuni and the Me Biz team, Ganguly said that we should leave him to himself, he is only 15 years old. I don’t think they will think much about pressure. We have seen him play in the IPL, but the pressure of playing for India is different.

Suryavanshi got his first call up to international cricket after a brilliant 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with Rajasthan Royals. The left-handed batsman scored the most runs in the tournament, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30. He also set a record by hitting 72 sixes during the season, breaking several IPL records and establishing himself as one of the most promising young talents of Indian cricket.

Suryavanshi, originally from Bihar, attended the conclusion of the IPL. Dominated the awards ceremony and won awards like Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker, Orange Cap and Super Sixer of the Season. He consistently challenged some of the top bowlers in the world for Rajasthan Royals and played a vital role with his aggressive batting throughout the campaign. India’s upcoming schedule includes a two-match T20 International series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20 International series in England from July 1 to 11.
