‘Leave chemicals, adopt cow dung…’ CM Dhami made this emotional appeal to the farmers of Uttarakhand by plowing the fields himself.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made headlines on Monday for his hands-on approach to promoting sustainable agriculture. At his private residence in Nagla Terai, Khatima, CM Dhami personally entered a field, took hold of a power tiller, and plowed the entire land himself. His mother, Bishna Devi, stood by his side in the field, encouraging her son throughout the activity.

Demonstrating Organic Farming Practices

Beyond plowing, the Chief Minister applied natural cow dung manure to the field, sending a clear message to farmers across the state about the benefits of organic farming. He emphasized that farming represents more than just a livelihood—it is the foundation of Indian culture and rural economies. CM Dhami stressed that when traditional farming methods are combined with modern technology, agricultural productivity and sustainability can be significantly enhanced.

Reducing Dependence on Chemical Fertilizers

CM Dhami appealed directly to farmers to abandon chemical fertilizers in favor of natural alternatives. He highlighted how cow dung manure enriches soil fertility while protecting the environment from harmful chemicals. The Chief Minister assured that the Uttarakhand government is committed to supporting farmers in this transition, helping increase their incomes and connecting them with larger markets.

Engaging Youth in Agricultural Development

The Chief Minister emphasized that Uttarakhand’s true identity lies in its agricultural heritage, village traditions, and natural beauty. He noted that the state government is actively running multiple schemes to promote traditional farming, horticulture, and local hill products with direct farmer assistance. CM Dhami stressed the urgent need to involve the younger generation in farming and rural development to create new employment opportunities in the region’s mountain communities.
