8th Pay Commission: Preparation for major changes in the salary of government employees, this is the new update

8th Pay Commission: The movement of the 8th Pay Commission (8th Pay Commission), formed to revise the salaries and allowances of central employees and pensioners, has intensified. The Commission is in constant consultation with employee organizations, pensioners and staff associations across the country. According to official information, the Commission now has only 11 months left to finalize its recommendations and prepare the report. The decisions of this new Pay Commission are going to have a direct impact on the monthly budget and future financial security of millions of families in the country. Today i.e. 15th June 2026 is the last chance to present your demands and suggestions before the Commission, after which the Commission is going to tour various states.
Last date for sending suggestions is today
The time limit given by the 8th Pay Commission to the employees and pensioners to present their views is ending today. The last date for submitting suggestions and responses on the Commission’s memorandum was extended to June 15, 2026. Due to this expansion, various employee organizations got ample opportunity to put forth their demands strongly.
The Commission team will now visit the capitals of different states to understand the problems being faced at the local level. As per the schedule, the Commission will visit Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) on 22 and 23 June 2026. After this, meetings will be held with stakeholders on 6 and 7 July 2026 in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and on 9 and 10 July 2026 in Kolkata (West Bengal). Before this, a high level meeting has also been held in Delhi in May 2026.
When will the final report come, when will the recommendations be implemented?
The Central Government had approved the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025. After this, its ‘Terms of Reference’ (ToR) got the approval of the Cabinet on 28 October 2025 and the formal formation of the Commission on 3 November 2025. Happened. According to the rules, the Commission has to submit its final report to the government within 18 months from the date of its formation i.e. by May 2027.
However, if we look at the history of previous pay commissions, it may take time till 2029 for the recommendations to be fully implemented on the ground. But the matter of relief for the central employees is that whenever it is implemented, its arrears will be payable from January 1, 2026 itself.
Understand the mathematics of fitment factor
Employees consider Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) as the main means of salary increase, but this is only to balance the rising inflation. In April 2026, the government had increased it by 2 percent, due to which it has become 60 percent of the basic pay. The real and big jump in salary comes from the ‘fitment factor’. This is the number by which the existing basic salary is multiplied to prepare the new pay structure.
In the Sixth Pay Commission it was 1.86 and in the Seventh Pay Commission it was increased to 2.57. This time, big organizations like Railway Technical Supervisors Association and NC-JCM have demanded a fitment factor of 3.83 from the government. The Commission has clarified that a final decision on this will be taken only after the nationwide discussion is completed.
How much can the minimum salary increase at different levels?
If the government accepts this demand of the employee organizations, then there will be a huge increase in the take-home salary of the employees. Depending on the salary level, its possible impact could be something like this.

8th Pay Commission: Preparation for major changes in the salary of government employees, this is the new update
