Rishabh Pant set for Delhi Capitals return, Kuldeep Yadav likely to join LSG ahead of IPL 2027

New Delhi: is set to return to the , where a new management structure is expected to hold the reins of the franchise. Parth Jindal’s JSW will control DC for the next two years, and the franchise has initiated a trade with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the wicketkeeper-batter, reports Cricbuzz.

Pant has represented DC for nine seasons before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, but will return to the franchise after stepping down as LSG captain following a disappointing 2026 season. The trade will involve Kuldeep Yadav moving to the Lucknow-based franchise ahead of the new season. There is no immediate information on the exact details of the trade, but according to a Cricbuzz report, Pant is likely to take a substantial pay cut as part of the deal. The biggest obstacle for the trade remains Pant’s record-breaking salary of Rs 27 crore, which is not feasible for the franchise to accommodate a player with this much fee. But the wicketkeeper-batter has agreed to take a pay cut to facilitate the move, and his expected salary will be around Rs 15 crore. However, Kuldeep’s fees will remain unchanged at Rs 13.25 crore at LSG.

Pant’s exit from LSG was imminent after the management decided that the franchise needed a new direction and leadership. Under his captaincy, LSG endured two tough seasons, finishing at the bottom of the table this year. He has played 111 matches for the Capitals between 2016 and 2024, missing the 2023 season due to injury. He led the franchise in 43 matches across three seasons but was released ahead of the 2025 mega auction after disagreements with the DC management, under the GMR group, over a few matters. However, JSW has always been a big admirer of Pant and wants to bring him back to the DC. It is highly unlikely that Pant will lead the franchise, even if there is a change in captaincy ahead of the upcoming season.

Yuvraj Singh likely to join DC coaching staff

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Yuvraj Singh will join DC’s coaching staff. With JSW taking control of the franchise, Saurav Ganguly returns to the side as head of cricketing affairs, and has decided to bring Yuvraj as a member of the coaching staff. With Ganguly returning, Hemang Badani is likely to be removed as the head coach of the franchise.
