After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi another 15-year-old Bihar prodigy smashes unbeaten triple century

New Delhi: Bihar cricket has been making headlines in recent months, largely due to the rise of teenage sensation . The young batter’s rapid progress including his IPL success and India call-up, has brought national attention to the state’s cricketing talent. Even his younger brother Aashirwad recently impressed with a century in a local tournament.

Now, another young star from Bihar has caught the attention of cricket followers but this time in the women’s game. Akshara Gupta has produced a stunning performance in the Bihar Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy. The 15-year-old prodigy scored an unbeaten 306 runs from just 126 deliveries.

While representing Raxaul Akshara dominated the opposition throughout her innings, striking 55 boundaries and eight sixes. Her triple century has quickly become one of the most talked-about performances in age-group cricket and has further strengthened Bihar’s reputation for producing talented youngsters.

Akshara’s journey from Raxaul

The 15-year-old’s rise is a story of dedication and family support. She discovered cricket at the age of eight despite having limited facilities available in her hometown. With no proper academy or structured coaching setup nearby, she began learning the game under the guidance of her uncle.

Her father, Raj Kishore Shah runs a chicken shop and played a crucial role in supporting her ambitions. He even arranged a practice net at home so she could train regularly. Her mother, Reena Devi, ensured she maintained a disciplined routine, helping her balance fitness and cricket from a young age.

Over the years she played alongside boys in her neighbourhood which helped Akshara develop confidence and improve her game. Inspired by her cousin Rishabh, a Bihar cricketer, she continued attending trials and working hard towards higher-level opportunities.

Rapid rise in domestic cricket

The year 2024 proved to be a turning point in her career as she earned selection for Bihar’s Under-19 women’s side and was later handed the captaincy at just 14 years old. She also became the first female cricketer from Bihar to feature in all four age-group formats during a single season.

Her recent achievement comes a year after Mumbai batter Ira Jadhav’s record-breaking, unbeaten 346 in the Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy. With performances like Akshara’s, Indian women’s cricket continues to see exciting young talent emerge across the country.
