Daler Mehndi accused of being drunk on stage: Son Gurdeep reveals what singer told him
New Delhi: Daler Mehndi’s reaction to the row over his stage appearance was cheerful, but his family has not been as relaxed. His son, Gurdeep Mehndi, has now broken his silence on the controversy, which erupted after Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal reprimanded the singer on stage and he was accused of being drunk. In a video shared on social media, Gurdeep called it his first official statement on the matter and described the incident as “very hurtful and unfortunate” for the family.

Gurdeep said he was outside India when the controversy erupted. He flew back to meet his father in person and ask him directly what had happened.
Daler Mehndi’s reply to his son
Recalling their conversation, Gurdeep said he asked, “Papa ji, what happened?” Daler, known for his cheerful Punjabi nature, replied, “First class, I’m fine.”
According to Gurdeep, this is how his father usually deals with tough moments, brushing them aside with humour and positivity. That is also why the singer spoke about the incident in a casual tone at an event.
Gurdeep Mehndi on family stress
Gurdeep clarified that the light-hearted remarks were never meant to play down the seriousness of the situation. He said his father’s comments had been taken in a different direction. The controversy, he added, has been stressful for the family. “Obviously we are stressed and us family together are dealing with it,” he said, indicating that they are facing the situation collectively.
Thanks to supporters and film industry
Towards the end of the video, Gurdeep thanked everyone who stood by his father and the family during this difficult time. He also expressed gratitude to the film industry for its support and specifically mentioned his uncle, singer Mika Singh.
“Many, many thanks to all of you; you have supported a lot, to the film industry, including my uncle Mika ji,” he said.
