How the Daler Mehndi controversy began

The incident took place on October 18 during the Kunjapuri Devi Mela in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Uniyal interrupted Daler’s performance and questioned his condition in front of the audience, alleging that the singer was under the influence of alcohol and lip-syncing.

Mika subsequently defended his brother, stating that Daler did not consume alcohol and had been unwell during the performance. He also called for an apology, stressing that senior artists should be treated with dignity. The remarks drew criticism on social media, bringing the minister’s conduct towards the veteran singer under scrutiny.

Pushkar Singh Dhami intervenes in the row

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami later contacted the Mehndi brothers and apologised on the minister’s behalf. Speaking to IANS, Mika appreciated the Chief Minister’s approach and said Dhami had also invited the brothers to Uttarakhand.

Mika said he valued the Chief Minister’s gesture while noting that Dhami himself had not been responsible for the incident. He also indicated that Daler did not wish to prolong the controversy following the Chief Minister’s intervention.
