Salman Khan joins Assam flood relief efforts, pledges 500 homes with Global Sikhs Organisation

Mumbai: Many celebrities and philanthropists have come together to send relief to the victims of Assam floods. Salman Khan’s foundation, Being Human has also come forward and assured to help those who got affected. Reports suggest that following the distribution of food to the affected families, Bhaijaan and his team have started the second phase of flood relief.

Reports suggest that the actor’s team has built about 220 semi-permanent houses in Nepali Khuti, the worst-hit village. The actor as per reports has decided to expedite the efforts after watching videos of Randeep Hooda leading on-ground relief work. Reports also claim that Salman Khan has reached out to Randeep Hooda through a mutual friend and seeks his guidance in relief distribution.

Randeep Hooda has also briefed Salman Khan about the efforts of Global Sikhs organisation. Amarpreet Singh, the founder of Global Sikhs, told Salman that they were planning to build semi-permanent homes, made of bamboo and tin sheds, that would be flood-proof and that each would cost between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000. Salman Khan has pledged to set up 500 houses with the Global Sikhs organisation.

Amarpreet Singh was quoted as saying by one of the leading newspapers saying, “Salman Khan spoke to us a few days ago and said, ‘Aap log fikar mat karo’. Right now, Sivasagar is the worst affected and its epicentre is Nepali Khuti. In the first phase of building, 220 houses have been completed, and we’re distributing them to each family. We can build eight to 10 houses a day.”

Salman Khan and Randeep Hooda are among the celebrities who often came forward to help people when any natural disaster has hit the country. The duo are now planning to work together in Assam and we hope that more celebrities will join them .
