‘Nobody will be spared’: Bengal CM after recovery of huge cash, gold from ex-bus driver’s residence

Birbhum: The police have recovered nearly Rs 28 crore in cash and 15 kg of gold during a raid at a former Bus driver’s residence in Bengal’s Birbhum district. The counting was going on till Wednesday night. The counting had drawn a large crowd outside the residence since Tuesday.

The cash worth Rs 28 crore  and 15 kg of gold from the two-storey house drew large crowds after the operation began late Tuesday night. According to police, the raid was conducted at the residence of Minar Mondal. He was a former government bus driver. He is the relative of Anubrata Mondal, a a TMC member. Tulu is considered close to TMC MLA Anubrata Mondal, who recently joined Ritabrata Banerjee camp.

What Police said on the case?

Sharing details with News18, Birbhum SP Vidit Rai Bhundesh said that rhe recovered cash and jeweller were are linked to the organised crime syndicate allegedly, which was allegedly operated by Tulu Mondal and Mondal. The police had earlier received information that illegal money and ornaments were stored at Minar’s residence. The police are now trying to probe the sources of assets. One person has been detained in the case.

West Bengal CM shares message

Sunabrata was arrested in 2022 in a cattle smuggling case. He is currently serving as the breakaway TMC’s Birbhum unit President. Meanwhile, taking to X, West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari wrote, “West Bengal Govt’s ongoing drive against the corrupt will go on with ‘Zero Tolerance Policy against Corruption’ as our guiding principle. Let it be unequivocally clear: no person with a chequered past who has amassed wealth through the exploitation of public resources and hobnobbing with the then ruling political party will be spared,” Adhikari wrote on X.
