All About WhatsApp Plus: Get Exclusive Features for 79 Rupees—Here Are the Details
WhatsApp has always been free, and for most people, that has been more than enough. However, Meta is now offering users the option to pay extra for a more personalised experience. WhatsApp Plus, the app's first subscription plan, has officially launched for Android and iOS users in India. This move follows Meta's announcement last month of a subscription plan for all its major social media platforms: WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

What exactly do you get with WhatsApp Plus?
At 79 rupees per month, WhatsApp Plus is essentially a customisation package. The plan allows you to change the app's appearance using 18 new colour themes—such as vibrant blue, royal purple, forest green, and fuchsia pink. You can also replace the default app icon with one of 14 new designs, ranging from clean, minimalist styles to more artistic options. Beyond aesthetics, the subscription includes 10 exclusive ringtones with names like Flutter, Ripple, Meadow, and Carnival, as well as exclusive sticker packs and the ability to pin up to 20 chats to the top of the list—a very useful improvement over the standard limit. You also have greater control over your chat lists, with the option to create and customise them as you like.
It is worth noting that WhatsApp Plus does not alter any core features. Calls, status updates, and end-to-end encryption remain intact and are free for everyone.
How to subscribe to WhatsApp Plus
Subscribing to WhatsApp Plus is simple and straightforward. Open WhatsApp and go to "Settings," tap on "Subscriptions," and select WhatsApp Plus. Tap "Continue," review the payment details, and confirm the purchase. Payments are processed Google Play Store. Once the process is complete, you will receive a notification confirming that your WhatsApp Plus subscription is active. If you don't see the WhatsApp Plus option in the subscriptions section, the plan may not be enabled for your account yet. It is worth checking back in a few days.
The good news is that new subscribers get the first month free before the monthly charge of 79 rupees kicks in. Once subscribed, all your benefits will appear in the Settings section under Subscriptions, then WhatsApp Plus. Simply tap on any feature to get started.
Is it worth it?
That really depends on how interested you are in customising your WhatsApp. If you use the app all day and want it to better suit your tastes, paying 79 rupees a month might not seem like too much. However, if you are satisfied with how WhatsApp currently looks and works, nothing here alters the core experience, so you won't miss out on anything essential if you decide not to subscribe.
