She says that the said CO, without taking her family into confidence or informing her, quietly called Shreya near the cremation ground on the same day and handed over a compensation check of ₹ 21 lakh issued by the Bihar government to her. Amarendra Sharma says that neither that government official nor his daughter-in-law Shreya told anything about this check to the elderly parents. As soon as the check came in hand, Shreya disappeared from there.

According to information received from villagers and local sources, martyr Shubham Kumar's family comes from a very ordinary background and their financial condition is not very good. After the son became a senior officer in the Air Force, the eyes of the entire family were filled with joy. Everyone together had dreamed of building a permanent house in the village, for which Shubham had also sanctioned a big home loan from the bank. The construction work of the house was still half-completed when the news of Shubham's martyrdom fell upon the family like a lightning. At present, Shubham's old parents are forced to spend their days in a half-built house with a tin roof (Karkat) in the village. The villagers say that both Shubham's dream of marriage and a new house remained unfulfilled and now these elderly parents have to worry about repaying the huge bank loan.
