Harshit Rana’s sudden entry in Team India, got a chance in Afghanistan ODI after injury

Harshit Rana has been included in the Indian team at the last moment for the third and final ODI against Afghanistan. This fast bowler was out of the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury, but now he has completely recovered. In view of India’s tour of Ireland and England, BCCI has decided to give Rana the necessary match practice before these tours. The upcoming ODI against Afghanistan will give the young fast bowler a chance to regain his rhythm and prove his fitness before joining the team for overseas tours.

BCCI said in a statement that the men’s selection committee has included Harshit Rana in the Indian squad for the third and final IDFC First Bank ODI against Afghanistan. Rana, who has completed his rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence (COE), has joined up with the ODI squad in Chennai. Due to a knee injury, Harshit could not play the entire IPL 2026 season with Kolkata Knight Riders. The fast bowler last represented India in the ODI series against New Zealand in January this year and was out of the team since then.

Interestingly, the selectors did not drop any player to make way for Harshit in the team. He has been included in the squad despite the stellar performances of Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar; Both these players made their international debut in the ongoing series against Afghanistan and have left a strong impression with their game. Rana has been selected in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England as well as the Asian Games.

This 24-year-old fast bowler was released earlier this year. He was also included in India’s T20 World Cup squad, but had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Later the selectors included Mohammed Siraj in his place in the team for the tournament. Now recovering, Rana is ready to return to the field and regain his rhythm ahead of India’s upcoming matches.
