Karnataka Food Safety Department conducts inspections at hotels in Bengaluru, seizure and disposal conducted

New Delhi: As part of the recent drive towards ensuring quality control and maintaining government mandated standards in eateries in Karnataka, the state’s Food Safety Department conducted inspections at hotels across Bengaluru. During the inspections it found many irregularities, as a result of which many seizures and disposals of food items were carried out.

What was found and where? 

According to a report by ANI, food safety officials inspected several establishments in Begaluru and found several food articles either unfit for consumption or requiring seizure and disposal. 

At Hotel Sky, UB City, officials found 45 kg of rotten chicken/beef, 6 kg of vegetable cutlets and 15 litres of used cooking oil. A total of 51 kg of food articles was found unfit for consumption and was discarded or destroyed as per procedure. At the Royal Chain Hotel, officials seized 50 kg of duck and 5 kg of fish, taking the total quantity seized to 55 kg.

At Madras Kitchen, 5 kg of green peas were found unfit for consumption. At the Tescon Hotel, officials found 5 kg of mushrooms not meeting standards. At Senchez Hotel, 3 kg of fish was seized, while 7 kg of cake, potatoes and tacos was discarded.

Overall, food safety officials seized or disposed of 132 kg of food articles during the inspections. In addition, 15 litres of used cooking oil was found and disposed of. The total quantity of food articles seized and disposed stood at 132 kg.

Meanwhile Skyee Lounge, 16th floor, U B City, Bangalore Kitchen, was closed for its unhygienic maintenance of the kitchen, and all meat and beef found in the establishment was rotten with fungus.
