You created magic: Rohit Sharma heaps praise on outgoing India fielding coach T Dilip
New Delhi: Rohit Sharma paid tribute to outgoing fielding coach T Dilip for his contributions towards the team’s success during his tenure. Dilip’s reign as the fielding coach of the Indian team came to an end last month. He left the Indian team’s coaching staff alongside assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate, who returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dilip joined the Indian team as the in November 2021, when the legendary Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the side. Dilip’s tenure coincided with one of Rohit’s most successful periods as the captain of the Indian team across all formats.
Dilip was the fielding coach when India made it to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup unbeaten before losing in the final against Australia. India then went on to lift the T20 World Cup title the following year under Rohit’s captaincy to mark an end to their over a decade-long ICC trophy drought.
Dilip was part of the support staff when India won the Champions Trophy under Rohit’s captaincy last year. His initial contract with the Indian team ended after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last year, but he was handed an extension ahead of India’s tour of England last year when Rohit stepped down as Test captain.
“You are a legend, Dilip garu. You created magic within the group and [you are] a behind-the-scenes workhorse. Best wishes ahead,” Rohit wrote on his Instagram story for Dilip as he stepped down from the post of India’s fielding coach.

After Rohit was removed from both Test and ODI captaincy, India won the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2026 titles under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy with Dilip serving as the fielding coach of the side. Dilip is also known for introducing the ‘Best Fielder’ medal ceremony in the dressing room after matches during major tournaments.
“Five years. It’s difficult to find the right words for a journey that has meant so much. When I first walked into this setup, I came in with one simple intention, to give everything I had every single day,” Dilip wrote in a post on social media after parting ways with Team India.
“Fielding has always been my way of contributing to the game I love, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in this team’s journey,” he added.
Who has replaced T Dilip as India’s fielding coach?
The BCCI has appointed former Assam cricketer Subhadeep Gosh as India’s new fielding coach after T Dilip’s exit following the team’s recently concluded white-ball tour of the UK. Gosh has previously worked as a fielding coach with the Indian women’s cricket team.
He has also been part of the India A coaching setup and enjoyed stints with IPL franchises Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders. He will join the Gautam Gambhir-led India support staff for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, which gets underway on August 15.
