Sri Lanka Cricket announces free stadium entry to fans for India Test series

New Delhi: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced free entry for fans in the upcoming two-match Test series against India. The initiative is aimed at drawing packed crowds in Test cricket, giving fans across the country and beyond an opportunity to witness the high-profile home series from the stands, featuring India, according to local media reports.

The upcoming series is an integral part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The first Test of the series is scheduled to be played at the picturesque Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. The action will then move to Colombo for the second and final Test at the historic Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Grounds, which will take place from August 23 to 27.

To ensure smooth entry for spectators, the board has designated specific stadium access points. Fans can attend the first Test in Galle by entering through Gate No. 4. For the second Test at the SSC in Colombo, they can come through Gates 3, 4, 5, and 7.

The initiative also aimed to inspire young aspiring cricketers and bring families together to experience high-profile Test series. With Test cricket struggling to attract big crowds, particularly in the subcontinent, Sri Lanka Cricket has opted to waive the entry fees in a bid to pack the stands.

Indian bowlers made to work hard in Colombo

India’s tour officially began on Friday with the first day of their three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) Ground in Colombo. KL Rahul led the Men in Blue after regular captain Shubman Gill missed the match due to a right finger injury.

Opting to bat first, the hosts got off to a good start as Nishan Madushka (66) and Ravindu Rasantha (71) stitched a 110-run partnership for the opening wicket. But the Indian spinner fought back strongly in the second session, with Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar taking two wickets each.

Despite a brilliant half-century from Sonal Dinusha, India’s bowling attack restricted Sri Lanka XI to 363/8 at stumps on Day 1.
