Vance was about to go to Switzerland, but Israel…did the deal fall apart?
The important agreement between America and Iran in Switzerland has fallen into disrepair at the last moment. US Vice President JD Vance was about to fly to Switzerland to sign this much-awaited agreement, but a move by Israel turned the entire diplomatic tables. US President Donald Trump recently wrote a post on social media and gave direct instructions to Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah not to get involved with each other. But Israel ignored President Trump's warning and launched a major military attack on southern Lebanon on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday. 16 people have died in this horrific attack by Israel on Lebanon. At the same time, the Israeli Army has also suffered losses in the retaliatory action taken after this attack. Israel itself has confirmed that 4 of its soldiers lost their lives in the counterattack by Lebanon. Angered by this Israeli attack on Lebanon, Iran has flatly refused to go to Switzerland. Following this stance of the Iranian delegation, Vice President JD Vance was also forced to cancel his visit. Iran's news agency 'Fars' has issued a statement on this development and made it clear that the meeting between America and Iran in Switzerland will be postponed until the ceasefire is implemented in Lebanon.
Talks in Switzerland halted
These talks were to take place in Switzerland on Friday. But uncertainty arose after Vance showed hesitation about going to Lucerne and Iranian officials said a date for the meeting had not yet been decided. A White House spokesman said the conversation Preparations are underway, but the schedule is still uncertain. The spokesperson said that as the Vice President said in his press conference, plans for upcoming technical talks have not yet been finalized and the US delegation stands ready to leave at the earliest opportunity. But the process of these negotiations has never been easy or predetermined. The spokesperson further said that Vance would not depart Thursday night, as previously planned, and that further information would be provided once next steps are confirmed.
Work to implement peace agreement begins
The delay comes a day after US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian signed a peace deal aimed at ending months of tension in the region. This agreement went into effect immediately and the ceasefire between the two countries was extended. Under the terms of the 14-point MoU (memorandum of understanding), Washington and Tehran have been given 60 days to negotiate and finalize the technical aspects of the agreement.
Vance says US remains committed to deal

He said that the 60-day negotiation period stipulated in the MoU has officially started from Thursday and expressed confidence that technical negotiations will begin after the logistics related arrangements are completed. A White House spokesperson said that we look forward to starting technical talks as soon as possible. At present, the next round of US-Iran talks is stalled and both sides Awaiting confirmation of the new date and venue for the talks.
