PM Modi inaugurates Arvind Textile plant in Varanasi, highlights women’s empowerment

Varanasi: Prime Minister on Sunday inaugurated a Rs 150-crore textile manufacturing plant of Arvind Limited in Varanasi. He also interacted with women workers undergoing training and enquired about their work.

Built on nearly 7–8 acres of land, the facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for local people. During his visit, PM Modi also spoke with officials about the garments manufactured at the plant, including those made from khadi. He also visited an exhibition showcasing products manufactured by the company.

During their interaction, the women workers told the Prime Minister that receiving a salary while undergoing training had been highly beneficial for them. They said the income would help them pursue higher education. Some of the women also revealed that working at the company had inspired them to set goals of starting their own enterprises in the future or becoming fashion designers. They added that workplace security and encouragement from their colleagues had significantly boosted their self-confidence.

The Prime Minister reminded the women of the global reputation of Banaras textiles. Pointing out that Banarasi handloom products and textiles are now being exported to countries such as Bhutan and Japan, he expressed hope that garments manufactured by Arvind Limited would also make a mark in the global market. He also emphasised the importance of developing new designs and skills in the textile industry.

He encouraged the women, saying that their growth and empowerment would contribute to the progress of their families, the state and, ultimately, the country.

Earlier, while welcoming the Prime Minister, Sanjay Lalbhai, chairman of Arvind Limited, described the initiative as a proud moment for Kashi and the group. During the ceremony, Lalbhai also highlighted the company’s continued investments over the past 130 years to promote economic growth and create employment opportunities.
