After Karnal, Kashmir-bound bus attacked again near Punjab’s Doraha bridge

New Delhi: A tourist bus travelling from Delhi to Srinagar came under a stone-pelting attack near Doraha Bridge in Punjab’s Khanna area late at night. The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety, as the same bus was reportedly attacked in Haryana’s Karnal district a night earlier. Around 40 passengers, including children, were travelling on the bus when the latest incident took place.

According to the police, the bus was hit by stones while passing near Doraha Bridge on the National Highway. One stone struck the front windscreen, while another hit the emergency window. The impact left a crack in the glass and frightened passengers, who were travelling towards Kashmir. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all passengers remained safe.

Police begin investigation into Khanna attack

Khanna SP Rakesh Yadav said the police received information about the incident through the 112 emergency helpline at around 11.15 pm. A police team reached the spot soon after and searched the area.

The bus had left Delhi at around 4 pm and was heading towards Srinagar. Police said an unidentified person threw a stone at the left side of the vehicle, damaging its glass. The driver’s statement has been recorded, and an investigation is underway.

A digital and technical team has been formed to examine the case. DSP-level supervision has also been put in place to ensure the matter is investigated properly. Police have registered an FIR and are working to identify those responsible for the attack.

Earlier attack reported in Haryana

The latest incident follows a similar attack on the same bus on 17 October in Nilokheri, Karnal district, Haryana. According to the police, a dispute over parking at a roadside eatery led to a confrontation with some people. Two men allegedly threw stones at the bus’s windscreen, breaking the glass. Haryana Police arrested the two accused and registered a case.

Investigators suspect the latest attack could be linked to a personal dispute, rivalry among private transport operators or the involvement of miscreants connected to the earlier incident. Punjab Police are coordinating with their Haryana counterparts to establish whether the two incidents are connected.

Police escort bus to ensure passenger safety

As a precaution, police escorted the bus safely out of their jurisdiction and informed police stations along the route. The aim was to ensure that the passengers could continue their journey without further trouble.

With two attacks reported within two nights, the investigation will focus on identifying the motive and preventing similar incidents. Police have assured that the case is being treated seriously.
