‘Tiger Shroff was on the floor’: Eyewitness recalls chaos after gunshots rang out

New Delhi: A major development has emerged in the firing case involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. Three men suspected of opening fire at the actor’s vehicle in Mumbai have been apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan, police said. The development comes a day after the shooting in Juhu, which left Tiger’s driver injured while the actor escaped without a bullet injury.

The incident took place at around 7 pm on Sunday when Tiger was leaving a football club. As the investigation gathers pace, eyewitnesses have recalled the chaotic moments when gunshots rang out, while several Bollywood celebrities have expressed concern over the attack.

Eyewitnesses recall firing at Tiger Shroff

Mumbai-based vlogger Salma Shaikh, who was present at the spot to film Tiger, said people initially mistook the sound of gunfire for Diwali crackers.

“As soon as he reached the main road, a boy started firing a gun. At first, everyone thought it was just Diwali firecrackers,” she told ANI.

Salma said Tiger escaped the bullets, but his driver was injured in the firing.

“Then the car stopped, and Tiger was on the floor. He didn’t get a single scratch. However, his driver was struck; a bullet hit his elbow, and one passed right through his palm. They immediately rushed to the police station, and from there, they came to Nanavati Hospital. Everyone else from his family has left since, but the driver — the patient — is still inside,” she added.

Another eyewitness, Shah Rukh Shaikh, told PTI that he was standing behind Tiger’s car when the shooting happened.

“At the time of the incident, I was standing behind the car. We were waiting for the car to arrive so we could take pictures. We had no idea what was going to happen. Within a second, two men came and fired four rounds at him, targeting the very seat where he was sitting. They immediately got into their vehicle and fled. One bullet hit his driver, while a fan who was walking alongside the car was shot in the stomach. Tiger Shroff himself drove the car back. The driver had been driving initially, but after he was shot, Tiger Shroff shifted seats inside the car and drove himself to the hospital.”

Karan Veer Mehra recalls Tiger Shroff firing

Actor Karan Veer Mehra’s car was right behind Tiger Shroff’s car when the attack took place. Recalling the incident, he told NDTV, “My car was right behind, you know, by the time we left the gate, by the time my car reached, I just saw blood spots, and I got to know that Tiger’s driver had been shot. So, I’m just happy that, you know, he’s (Tiger Shroff) safe, but my heart goes out to the driver, and I hope he recovers well…There were kids right there, celebrating a birthday party; everybody ran helter-skelter.”

“My car was a little behind, and there were a lot of people who were taking photographs. We just heard some gunshots and people shouting that somebody had fired because there were also people celebrating with fireworks. So we thought it was something to do with that,” he added.

Eknath Shinde meets Tiger Shroff

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Tiger and his family following the shooting. Speaking to the media, he said five rounds were fired during the incident.

“This is a major incident. Five rounds were fired, but fortunately, he was safe. His driver sustained injuries, and the incident is condemnable,” Shinde said.

He also revealed that Tiger sustained minor injuries from gunpowder and broken glass.

“I met with the actor. He has injuries on his left hand caused by gunpowder and shards of glass. Both he and his mother are quite shaken,” he added.

Pictures from the meeting showed Tiger with a bandage on his arm and dressings on his upper body.

Shinde assured the family that the government would act against those behind such threats.

“I have assured them that the state government stands with them in the face of the open threats being directed at public figures. No form of threat will be tolerated,” he said.

“These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism,” he added.

FWICE condemns attack

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also condemned the shooting and raised concerns about the safety of people working in the film industry.

“Such acts of violence and intimidation are completely unacceptable, and raise serious concerns about the safety and security of personalities associated with the Indian film industry,” the organisation said.

Referring to the earlier firing incident involving filmmaker Rohit Shetty, FWICE added, “It is deeply disturbing that this is the second such incident involving a prominent personality from the film industry, following the earlier firing incident involving renowned filmmaker Mr. Rohit Shetty. The recurrence of such incidents is a matter of grave concern and calls for immediate, decisive and effective action by the concerned authorities.”

The organisation has sought a “thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation” and urged the Maharashtra government and Mumbai Police to address repeated threats and attacks involving members of the film industry.

Police investigation underway

Earlier, a police official told PTI that multiple teams had been formed to trace those behind the shooting.

“A total of 15 teams, including dedicated personnel from the Mumbai Crime Branch and local police, have been constituted to investigate the case from all angles and track down the culprits,” the official said.

Security has also been tightened outside Tiger’s Mumbai residence. His sister Krishna Shroff and former girlfriend Disha Patani were among those who visited him following the incident.
