Pakistan win tri-series
Pakistan produced a dominant batting display in the final against Sri Lanka to clinch a three-wicket victory and win the ODI tri-series, which also involved England. Batting first, Sri Lanka rode on opener Kamindu Mendis’ 131 and a 77 off 65 balls from Pavan Rathnayake to post a strong total of 325 runs on the board in the summit clash.
In reply, Pakistan got off to a dreadful start as they lost opener Maaz Sadaqat cheaply on 5 before senior batter Babar Azam was dismissed on a duck in quick succession. However, Fakhar and Saad Baig joined hands to get Pakistan’s chase back on track with a 149-run stand for the third wicket.
Fakhar scored 127 off 99 balls, laced with 11 fours and six sixes while Baig scored 74 off 75 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. After the duo’s departure, Hasan Nawaz scored an unbeaten 37 while Arafat Minhas scored 61 off just 31 deliveries to help Pakistan chase down the target of 326 runs in 48.3 overs.
