‘Nitish Kumar is finished’: Anant Singh attacks JD(U) after expulsion, hints at own party
New Delhi: Mokama MLA Anant Singh on Sunday attacked the Janata Dal (United) leadership a day after his expulsion, saying the party had “no political future” and suggesting he could launch his own political outfit.

During his first public appearance in Patna since the decision, Singh dismissed the disciplinary action and predicted that JD(U) would struggle to win even 10 seats in the forthcoming elections.
Singh dismisses disciplinary action
Singh said he learnt about his expulsion through media reports and had received no formal communication from the party. He insisted that the decision did not worry him and ruled out joining another political organisation.
“Why will I go anywhere? I will simply form my own party,” Singh said, adding that elections would reveal the impact of JD(U)’s decision. He questioned the current leadership’s political standing and said the party owed its identity to Nitish Kumar.
Ties with Nitish intact
Despite attacking the party leadership, Singh said his personal relationship with the former Bihar chief minister remained cordial. “There is no distance between Nitish ji and me. We maintain a cordial relationship. I will go and meet him sometime; there is no issue,” he said.
Singh said voters would judge both him and the party.
“The public is the master. If we have done something wrong, the people will answer us. If the party has done something wrong, the party will have to answer for it,” he said.
Why JD(U) expelled him
JD(U) expelled Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for six years on Saturday over alleged anti-party activities.
Bihar unit president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said Singh’s primary membership had been “terminated with immediate effect for defying party directives, using insulting language against the top leadership and campaigning for a rival party’s candidate in the recent legislative council elections”.
Singh had openly supported Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh and vowed to defeat JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar. Results are due on October 27. JD(U) also recommended that the Bihar Assembly Speaker terminate Singh’s Assembly membership under the Constitution’s Tenth Schedule.
Family’s hold over Mokama
Known as “Chhote Sarkar”, Singh has considerable influence in Mokama. He won the seat on an RJD ticket in 2020 but lost his Assembly membership following a UAPA conviction. Neelam Devi won the 2022 bypoll as an RJD candidate. She later switched to the NDA in 2024. Singh subsequently returned to the Assembly as Mokama MLA.
