Lok Sabha Secretariat Director dies by suicide, wife discovers body
New Delhi: A 40-year-old government servant was found dead at his home in Noida on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Gaurav Gautam, who was posted as a Director with the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The man was found hanging at his home at a posh housing society in Noida and police suspect that this is a case of death by suicide, reported PTI.
Suicide note recovered
According to the police, they recovered a note from the house, which was supposedly written by the official, right before his death. This note mentions a loan and investigators believe that this unpaid loan amount could have been the reason for the suicide.
The Noida Police said that Gautam’s body was discovered by his wife at their residence in Kendriya Vihar-II Society in Sector 82, Noida on Sunday. Investigations are currently ongoing in this death case, said police personnel.
The police received information about the man’s death, through a hospital memo. Gautam was taken to the hospital after he was found hanging from the ceiling fan. However doctors at the facility declared him dead on arrival.
Wife was away when Gautam died: Police
The police said that Gautam’s wife had gone to her parent’s home when the alleged suicide took place. She returned home and despite repeated knocks on the door, did not get a response. She sensed that something was amiss and called a security guard for help.
The woman managed to open the door, with the help of the security guard, said a police personnel. Upon entering she found her husband hanging from the ceiling fan. She rushed him to a private hospital, but doctors declared him dead, said the police.
The police said that soon after receiving information about the official’s death from the hospital, a team was sent to the private facility. Another team reached his home and conducted preliminary investigations. A forensic team also conducted a survey and collected necessary evidence from the house.
The body of the government official has been sent for post mortem. Investigations are on in the matter, added officials.
