Jharkhand: Mob lynches man accused of kidnapping, raping schoolgirl
New Delhi: A 32-year-old man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl died after an angry mob severely beat him in Jharkhand’s Chatra district. Police reported that eight people have been arrested for taking part in the attack.

How the incident unfolded
Locals said the accused, Md Emroz, took a schoolgirl and kept her locked inside his home for two days. Her family searched everywhere for her but could not find any trace of where she was. Early Tuesday morning, the girl returned home and described what happened. She said Emroz held her captive and threatened to kill her. Hearing this, a large group of angry villagers gathered, surrounded Emroz’s house, and attacked him.
Police action and hospitalization
Police arrived at the location, rescued a badly injured Emroz from the crowd, and took him to a local hospital. After basic treatment, doctors transferred him to a bigger hospital, where he died while being treated. Emroz’s father, Sultan Miyan, was also hurt during the crowd’s attack.
Police investigation and history
Authorities have placed the girl under protection and started her mandatory medical checkup. Officers also took official statements from Emroz’s family. Villagers mentioned that this was not Emroz’s first crime, claiming he was previously arrested in a 2023 rape case and had served time in jail.
Police confirmed that the girl’s allegations are being fully investigated according to the law. They added that teams are searching for other people who participated in the mob violence.
