Important Days in August 2026: National and International Dates
Every month present in the calendar had their own significances. Similarly, the upcoming month, i.e., August which is the eighth month of the year is rich and prosperous with important national and international dates. The month also had several cultural festivals.

Key Observances in August 2026
Friendship Day (August 2): Friends are one of the important role playing characters in our lives irrespective of the fact that they don’t belong to blood relation. As a result, this bond is celebrated on August 2 in this year. Meanwhile, in India, Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in the view of the unique bond of friendship and is a day to show the gratitude to a friend.
National Handloom Day (August 7): This day is observed to honour the handloom industry of India and also the introduction of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905. It is also the day of indigenous fabric and the livelihood of millions of weavers.
Quit India Movement Day (August 8): This day is celebrated to honour the Quit India Movement that was launched by Gandhi Ji in 1942, which was a significant movement in India’s struggle for freedom.
Independence Day (August 15): India got its freedom from British rule in 1947, so the country celebrate Independence Day every year on August 15. World Photography Day & World Humanitarian Day (August 19): This day celebrates photography as an art and World Humanitarian Day honors humanitarian workers doing the job in all parts of the world facing crisis.
Sadbhavana Diwas and Indian Akshay Urja Day (August 20): Sadbhavana Diwas, Indian Akshay Urja Day, on 20 August, celebrates the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi and the importance of national harmony. Indian Akshay Urja Day is a day of awareness of renewable energy and sustainable development.
Onam (August 26) : Onam is celebrated throughout Kerela on this day and it is believed to be one of the biggest festival there which marks the annual return of the legendary king Mahabali and the Kerala’s harvest season.
Raksha Bandhan (August 28): The festival has a special place in the hearts of Indians as it symbolises the bond between brothers and sisters. The festival is celebrated by tying a rakhi on the brothers’ wrists by sisters as a symbol of love and protection.
National Sports Day (August 29): This day is marked as a tribute to remember the birth anniversary of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The event majorly focuses on sports, fitness and physical well-being in India.
