Diljit Dosanjh cannot sing Patiala Peg and 3 other songs in Indore: Complaint cites liquor and violence

New Delhi: Diljit Dosanjh will not be allowed to perform four of his songs at his Indore concert on November 15. Officials said on Saturday that the restriction covers Patiala Peg, 5 Tara Theke, Jeb Vicho Feem and Jatt Fire Karda, which are alleged to promote alcohol and violence and could affect children in the audience.

Diljit Dosanjh Indore concert order

The District Child Protection Officer sent directions to the manager of the concert venue. The move follows a complaint from Dr Punditrao Dharenavar, who is based in Chandigarh. In the letter, the officer noted that children above five years of age can attend the show and voiced concern that the four songs may leave a negative influence on them.

Punjab and Haryana High Court order on songs

The letter also referred to a July 22, 2019, order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court had told police in Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to make sure songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs and violence are not played, and the direction covered live performances too. The High Court had pointed to the potential impact of such songs on young children.

Dharenavar complaint against Diljit Dosanjh

Dharenavar relied on the same order in his complaint and asked the authorities to stop Dosanjh from performing the four songs, even with changed lyrics. He also sought a ban on the singer inviting children on stage during the concert. His complaint further asked that Dosanjh not wear two crossed silver bullet belts, known as bandoliers, or dummy metallic silver cartridges on his chest during the live show.
