Congress seeks extension of SIR exercise for clarity on ADDSO

Bengaluru: KPCC president B K Hariprasad has sought a 15-day extension of the deadline for genuine voters to clarify their details under the SIR exercise, citing the large number of voters categorised as absent, dead, deleted or shifted.

In a letter to Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar, Hariprasad said the number of voters categorised under ADDSO (Absent, Death, Delete, Shifting and Others) stood at 1,10,97,426, accounting for 20.02 per cent, as per the district-wise EF digitisation status as of August 5.

The letter dated August 6 was shared with the media on Friday. He said the Election Commission had made the readable list of ADDSO voters available online and allowed genuine voters affected by the classification to approach their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to get their records corrected.

“Since the window is closing on August 8, 2026, we seek an extension of 15 days to effectively exercise this compliance and bring down to the maximum possible ADDSO,” Hariprasad said in the letter.

He urged the CEO to extend the deadline by 15 days to enable bonafide voters to verify their details and make necessary corrections, thereby reducing the number of voters placed under the ADDSO category.
