DC Box Office Day 1: Lokesh Kanagaraj makes lead-acting debut with Wamiqa Gabbi starrer, earns Rs 4.10 cr

New Delhi: Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first outing as a lead actor has opened with a Rs 5.70 crore worldwide gross. Arun Matheswaran’s DC, starring Kanagaraj alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, collected Rs 4.10 crore net in India on its opening day, according to Sacnilk estimates.

Across 3,504 shows, the film generated an India gross of approximately Rs 4.70 crore. Its overseas earnings contributed another Rs 1 crore, taking the worldwide total to Rs 5.70 crore after Day 1.

The opening also showed a clear late-day surge. While the overall occupancy for the Tamil version stood at 45.57 per cent, night shows jumped to 67.38 per cent. Morning screenings recorded 32.62 per cent occupancy, followed by 43 per cent in the afternoon and 35.38 per cent for English shows.

Tamil version drives opening-day numbers

Tamil Nadu emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s opening-day gross, accounting for Rs 2 crore. The Tamil version alone collected Rs 2.60 crore net on Day 1.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana followed with a combined gross contribution of Rs 1.40 crore. Karnataka added Rs 60 lakh, while Kerala contributed Rs 40 lakh. Other Indian markets made up the remaining Rs 30 lakh.

Telugu version adds Rs 1.25 crore

The Telugu release put up a Rs 1.25 crore net collection in India. Its overall occupancy was 30.80 per cent, although the Telugu EPIQ version registered a considerably stronger 71 per cent occupancy.

The Hindi version had a smaller contribution, collecting Rs 25 lakh with an overall occupancy of 9 per cent.

With the first-day figures now in, DC has recorded a solid start across its Tamil and Telugu markets while its night-show numbers point to stronger audience traction later in the day. The film’s performance over the opening weekend will determine how much further it can build on its debut.
