Bengaluru: Man strangles wife with dupatta over her reel addiction, flees to Bihar
New Delhi: A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife in Bengaluru and fleeing to his native place in Bihar. Police said the accused confessed during questioning that he allegedly strangled his wife after repeated arguments between the couple.

The incident took place on July 25 in Kumbalgodu town in Bengaluru. The accused has been identified as Dhiraj Kumar. Police alleged that he strangled his wife Reema Kumari using a veil and then wrapped her body in a bedsheet before leaving the spot.
Love marriage takes tragic turn after couple moves to Bengaluru
Police traced Dhiraj to Bihar and arrested him before bringing him back to Kumbalgodu for questioning. During the investigation, police said details about the circumstances leading to the woman’s death came to light. According to police, the couple had fallen in love and got married around 10 months ago. They later moved to Bengaluru without informing Reema’s family.
According to preliminary information, Dheeraj told investigators that Reema had allegedly started losing interest in him after they moved to Bengaluru. Police said she spent a lot of time making reels at home and was allegedly not willing to have sexual relations with him.
Police detail events that allegedly led to the killing
Dheeraj also claimed that Reema would cook food only for herself and would not serve him when he came home. Police said these issues led to frequent arguments between the couple. Reema had also reportedly wanted to return to Bihar, which further increased tension between them.
On the day of the incident, Dheeraj returned home and found that no food had been prepared for him. A small argument reportedly started between them and later became more serious. Police said Dheeraj allegedly asked Reema to go to bed but she refused. According to investigators, Reema first attacked him with a wooden stick after which Dheeraj allegedly strangled her with her dupatta.
Accused flees to Bihar as decomposed body is found
After allegedly killing her, Dheeraj reportedly covered Reema’s face with plastic and wrapped her body in a bed sheet. Police said he left the body inside the rented room and fled to Bihar in an attempt to avoid arrest. The case came to light on July 29 after the building owner was informed by one of Reema’s acquaintances about a foul smell coming from the couple’s room. When the owner entered the room, he found Reema’s decomposed body wrapped in a bed sheet near the toilet and informed the police.
Following the complaint, Kumbalgodu Police registered a case for murder and destruction of evidence and began an investigation. Police said Dheeraj confessed during questioning. Investigators have also collected scientific evidence and CCTV footage as part of the probe. Further investigation is underway.
