IBM and CHRIST University establish AI innovation centre

Bengaluru: CHRIST (Deemed to be University) and IBM announced on Tuesday, the creation of the IBM Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence in Bengaluru.

The facility seeks to advance AI-driven education, research and innovation by giving students, faculty members, researchers and PhD scholars opportunities to develop and apply AI capabilities through enterprise technologies and practical use cases.

Learning and experimentation will cover generative AI, agentic AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, intelligent automation and responsible AI. Participants can use IBM technologies to create enterprise AI applications research and solution development.

Available tools comprise watsonx.ai as an AI development studio, watsonx Orchestrate as an agentic control plane for scaling and governing AI, and IBM Bob as an AI development partner supporting the full software lifecycle.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Jose C C observed that artificial intelligence is redefining every sector of society. “Through this collaboration with IBM, CHRIST University is creating a future-ready innovation ecosystem where education, research and industry converge. The IBM Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence will empower students and researchers with enterprise-grade AI technologies, enabling them to build impactful solutions while contributing to the advancement of responsible and ethical AI,” he said.

“IBM Expert Labs will deliver hands-on training and enablement programmes for faculty members, PhD scholars and postgraduate students to strengthen expertise in enterprise AI technologies and speed the creation of AI-driven applications across disciplines. Learners will also receive access to IBM SkillsBuild, the free technology education programme, as part of their certification path,” he added.

Siddhesh Naik, Executive Director for Growth Markets, Technology Sales, IBM India and South Asia, noted that the future of AI innovation depends on strong collaboration between academia and industry.

“By fostering deeper industry-academia collaboration, the aim is to strengthen India’s AI talent pipeline, accelerate research and innovation, and help prepare the workforce needed for an AI-driven future. This initiative will enable students, faculty, researchers and PhD scholars to gain hands-on experience with enterprise AI technologies while applying them to real-world challenges,” he said.
