Namma Metro records highest-ever daily ridership of 11.19 lakh

Bengaluru: Namma Metro recorded its highest-ever single-day ridership on August 10, with 11.19 lakh passengers using the network, marking a significant milestone after the operational metro network expanded to 96.1 km.

According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a total of 11,19,815 passengers travelled across the three operational lines on Monday. The record highlights the growing dependence on Metro services for daily commuting in the city, particularly amid increasing traffic congestion.

The Purple Line accounted for the highest number of passengers, with 4,66,371 commuters using the route. The Green Line recorded 2,85,499 passengers, while the Yellow Line registered 92,838 passengers. Interchange passengers accounted for another 2,75,107 journeys, contributing substantially to the overall ridership figure.

The Yellow Line, connecting RV Road with Bommasandra over 19 km, has played an important role in expanding Bengaluru’s Metro connectivity. The line completed one year of operation on August 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Yellow Line on August 10, 2025, and passenger services commenced the following day. Nearly 30,000 passengers travelled on the route on its first day of public operations.

The addition of the Yellow Line has provided direct Metro connectivity to several important residential, industrial and commercial areas in south Bengaluru. The route has also improved access to the Bommasandra industrial corridor and surrounding areas.

The latest ridership figures come as BMRCL continues to expand the Metro network and improve connectivity across the city. With more corridors becoming operational, the Metro is increasingly emerging as a preferred mode of public transport for office-goers, students and other daily commuters.

The record ridership on August 10 also reflects the growing importance of the Metro network in reducing dependence on private vehicles and easing pressure on Bengaluru’s congested roads. BMRCL officials are expecting passenger numbers to increase further as connectivity improves and additional Metro corridors are commissioned.
