Bommai plans specialised coaching hub for North Karnataka students
Hubballi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday announced plans to establish a specialised educational institution in North Karnataka to provide quality coaching for competitive examinations to talented students, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
Speaking at a state-level preliminary consultation meeting organised by the North Karnataka Talented Students Competitive Examination Welfare Committee at Hubballi, Bommai said the proposed institution would aim to bridge the educational and coaching gap faced by students in the region.
He said the first objective would be to establish an institution offering comprehensive education and competitive examination training to students from the pre-university level through graduation. “Starting a training centre in North Karnataka is a collective resolve. What we have envisioned must now be translated into action,” Bommai said, stressing the need for a long-term approach to the initiative.
He said a small action committee comprising experts would be constituted to identify a suitable location, finalise the institutional model and prepare the training programme for the first year. Bommai said a separate committee would also be formed to mobilise funds required for developing the institution and its infrastructure. The organisers are targeting the commencement of training programmes by April next year. He highlighted the contribution of educationist Prabhakar Kore, saying his experience in managing educational institutions would be valuable in establishing the proposed centre. Bommai also said the social commitment and guidance of Kaneri Siddhagiri Math seer would provide additional strength to the initiative.
A second phase of the project is proposed in Bengaluru, where the organisers plan to utilise the expertise of experienced faculty available in the state capital. Bommai said a three-acre site allotted to the North Karnataka community near Yelahanka during his tenure as chief minister could potentially be used for the expansion. He said the institution would be developed with a 10-year vision to make it one of the leading competitive examination coaching centres in the country.
Several seers, political leaders, former ministers, entrepreneurs and representatives of North Karnataka organisations attended the meeting. Former chief minister and MP Jagadish Shettar, former MP Annasaheb Jolle, Ramesh Katti and former minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa were among those present.
