WhatsApp rolls out editable polls, @all mentions and faster group chat creation: Here’s what’s new

New Delhi: WhatsApp has introduced a fresh set of features for group chats, adding new tools to make conversations easier to manage and group coordination more efficient. The new update adds an option to edit polls, anonymous voting, @all mentions, and a faster option for creating new group chats from conversations.

The new features aim to make conversations easier, make decisions more readily and enable users to share information more effectively. It will roll out worldwide and will be accessible to users in the coming weeks.

Polls get more useful with new controls

Here are the three big changes to WhatsApp’s poll feature. Polls can now be programmed to end at a specific time, which allows votes to be counted at a predetermined time. It’s helpful for decisions that are time-sensitive, like scheduling a meeting or arranging for a specific event.

The firm has also introduced anonymous voting, allowing for voters to keep their names from other voters. Also, poll makers can edit the poll question for as long as 15 minutes after they posted it, allowing them to correct errors or clarify their question without having to start a new poll.

@all, mentions arrive for important announcements

Along with that, WhatsApp is also rolling out a new feature called the @all mention, which allows users to send a message to all users in a group without having to individually mention them.

The feature will only be available to the group administrator in groups of over 32 members, WhatsApp said. If a user does not wish to have these alerts, they can turn off “@all” notifications Android app’s notification settings.

Easier way to create side group chats

The other new feature lets users create a new group chat, directly from an existing group, without adding people to it one-by-one.

The feature is designed for when a member wants to continue a conversation on a topic, arrange a meeting or other activity outside of the main group chat, or just chat with other members of the group in their own group.
