Three held for murder of BJP leader

Bhabanipatana: Odisha Police on Friday arrested three persons for the alleged murder of local BJP leader Fakir Rana in Kalahandi district, officials said.

Rana, husband of Dam Karlakhunta gram panchayat sarpanch Snigdha Rana, was allegedly stabbed to death on Wednesday evening near the panchayat office while returning after attending a party meeting, police said. An FIR was lodged by Snigdha Rana at Madanpur Rampur police station on Thursday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Tulsiram Sahu and Sura Singh Patra, both residents of Dam Karlakhunta village, and Baldev Sahu of Pattamunda village.

Kalahandi SP Nagaraj Devarakonda said, “Three persons have been arrested within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.” According to the SP, preliminary investigation suggested previous enmity as the possible motive behind the incident. “The incident occurred after an altercation between the victim and the three accused,” he said.
