Speaker seeks swift action on CAG reports

New Delhi: Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday urged government departments to treat CAG reports as a roadmap for administrative reform, rather than merely records of past irregularities, and take corrective action within fixed timelines.

Making a statement during the Monsoon Session, Gupta said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has completed scrutiny of CAG reports presented last year and submitted its recommendations. He said several reports had remained pending as they were not tabled before the Assembly during previous governments’ tenure.

Gupta expressed confidence that scrutiny of CAG reports tabled this year would also be completed by the end of 2026. He directed the Assembly Secretariat to immediately forward PAC reports to concerned departments so that Action Taken Notes (ATNs) could be submitted promptly and recommendations implemented without delay.

The Speaker said CAG observations should be viewed as warning signals of systemic weaknesses, helping departments identify shortcomings and prevent their recurrence.

He urged departments to examine audit findings seriously, improve financial discipline and ensure efficient and transparent use of public resources. CAG reports, he said, should serve as constructive documents guiding better governance.
