Tamil Nadu Budget 2026: State FM Marie Wilson Presents Vijay Govt’s Maiden Financial Budget

The State Legislative Assembly is hearing the first budget of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government in Tamil Nadu on Today, August 5, 2026, which is led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

The budget for the financial year 2026–2027 has been presented by Finance Minister N Marie Wilson. On August 6, the state government will also unveil its agriculture budget.

The Budget session comes at a very politically sensitive time due to the controversial arrest of DMK leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding the alleged remarks on Trisha Krishnan.

Key Highlights:

•EV charging stations: In five years, 20,000 public EV charging stations would be built throughout Tamil Nadu with a budget of Rs 50 crores.Additionally, the government has put Rs 5 crore incentivise to encourage the installation of EV charging stations in residential areas.

•Transport department: FM Wilson declared that the Transport department would receive Rs 13561 crore of the overall budget. Additionally, he stated that the state administration is in talks with the Karnataka government about establishing a metro system up to Hosur.

•”Master Plan” for Chennai: The government would create a new Master Plan for Chennai, according to Finance Minister Wilson. Rs 25 crore will be set aside for this project, which will follow global best practices.

•Mannin Magal Scheme: Financial aid would be given to Adi Dravidar and tribal agricultural laborers with the goal of enabling them to acquire land, with a focus on women.

•TN Single Window 3.0: The government of Tamil Nadu declared that it will shortly introduce TN Single Window 3.0, which will give industries access to all required clearances single, simplified platform.

•$1.5 trillion economy by 2035-36: FM Wilson stated that the government wanted to 2035–2036, they want to have a $1.5 trillion economy and provide the young people with high-value jobs. “Over Rs 35,000 crore of MoUs have been signed since we came to power,” he added.

•Health Budget: FM N Marie Wilson presented the budget for the 2026–2027 financial year as Rs 23,353 crore was given to the health and family welfare department.

•Annan Seer Thittam: In keeping with Vijay’s TVK’s election pledge prior to the Assembly election, FM Wilson declared that the bride will receive a silk saree and eight grams of gold coin. The program has been approved for Rs 812 crore.

•TN Spark Scheme: Tamil Nadu government plans to increase the number of government schools covered by the TN Spark program from 5,000 schools. The government mentioned adding 2,600 schools to the existing numbers.

•1-gram gold for newborns: FM Wilson declared that 1-gram fold rings will be given to newborns at government hospitals. A sum of Rs 560 crore has been allocated for the scheme.

•Vetrithiran Training Scheme: One lakh job seekers would receive skill employability training from the government. In the first phase, 20,000 youths will receive training. Throughout the training period, graduates and trainees with vocational qualifications will receive a monthly stipend. The project has been allotted Rs 150 crore.

•Vetri Laptop Scheme: According to Tamil Nadu FM N Marie Wilson, Rs 2,000 crore has been set aside for the Vetri Laptop Scheme.

•Olympic centers: To train students, the TVK government has set aside Rs 50 crore for the construction of ten special Olympic centers.

•Artificial Intelligence: IIT-Madras and other institutions will assist in training and developing an AI workforce by 2031 as part of FM Wilson’s AI Industry Development Programme.The minister declared a new AI policy worth Rs 2,000 crore. He added, “We will impart AI and robotics education for students in various cohorts -6th-8th Standard, 9th-11th Standard, 12th Standard.”

•”Super Clean, Super Campus”: In the first phase of the TVK government’s “Super Clean, Super Campus” program, 10,000 schools will receive daily cleaning, drinking water and toilet upkeep, and security.

•Modernisation of government schools: 3,734 government schools in Tamil Nadu will receive Rs 300 crore this year as a part of this budget.

•Free electricity: The budget calls for 200 units of free electricity under the budget.
