Supreme Court cancels Anant Singh’s bail in Dularchand Yadav murder case, sets Dec 1 deadline

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail granted to former JD(U) MLA Anant Kumar Singh in the murder case of Dularchand Yadav, giving him a fresh setback. The apex court has directed the Mokama legislator to surrender before the authorities by December 1.

A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PV Varale set aside the PAtna High Court’s March 19 order granting bail to Singh. The apex court observed that the High Court failed to properly consider the seriousness of the offence and Singh’s criminal antecedents while allowing his release.

The order came while hearing a petition filed by Niraj Kumar, grandson of the deceased, challenging Singh’s bail. During an earlier hearing, the petitioner’s counsel had argued that Singh had not fully disclosed his 67 criminal antecedents.

What is Dularchand Yadav murder case?

The case is related to the killing of Dularchand Yadav who is a former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Jan Suraaj Party supporter, during campaigning for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

Yadav was killed on October 30, 2025, in Mokama after a confrontation between supporters of Singh, who was then contesting on a JD(U) ticket and Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.

According to the police investigation, Yadav was allegedly run over by an SUV during the clash. His family, however, claimed that he was first shot and then crushed under a vehicle. The postmortem report pointed to serious injuries to his heart and lungs caused by blunt force trauma.

Singh was named as the prime accused and arrested on November 1, 2025. Despite being in judicial custody, he contested
the Mokama Assembly election and defeated RJD candidate Veena Devi by 28,206 votes.

JD(U) expels Anant Singh for six years

The Supreme Court’s decision comes shortly after the JD(U) expelled Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, from the party for six years over alleged anti-party activities.

The action followed Singh’s open support for Jan Suraaj-backed candidate Anuj Singh against the JD(U)’s official nominee Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ constituency election. Singh had refused to back down despite objections from senior party leaders. He also claimed that the JD(U) had been hijacked and said he had no regrets over the disciplinary action.

Following the expulsion, the Bihar government also removed Neelam Devi from the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee, taking away her Minister of State rank and official bungalow. With his bail now cancelled, Singh must surrender by December 1 and face further proceedings in the murder case.
