I&B Ministry advises TV channels to carry sign language interpretation for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas telecast

New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory to private satellite television channels on carrying sign language interpretation during the live telecast of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations on October 31, 2026.

The advisory seeks to make the events accessible to persons with disabilities. It says private channels may use Doordarshan network signals or the DD Bharati feed, which will include sign language interpretation.

The nationwide celebrations mark the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The programme includes floral tributes, project launches and events at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.

President to offer tribute

According to the schedule in the advisory, President Droupadi Murmu will offer a floral tribute to Sardar Patel in New Delhi from 7 am onwards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s floral tribute programme will take place at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar from 9 am to 9.10 am.

The advisory lists these as separate events at their respective locations as part of the day’s celebrations.

Projects and evening events

Following the floral tribute, PM Modi will lay foundation stones and inaugurate various projects at the Statue of Unity between 9.15 am and 9.30 am, according to the ministry.

The schedule also includes several events at the Parade Ground in Ekta Nagar between 5.30 pm and 7.40 pm. The Prime Minister will attend these celebrations.

The advisory sets out the morning and evening programme timings to inform broadcasters about the events available for live coverage.

Doordarshan live broadcast plans

Doordarshan will telecast the events live across DD National, DD Bharati, DD Urdu, DD Kisan and all its regional and state network channels.

DD Bharati’s coverage will include sign language interpretation. The participating networks will also provide live streams through their official YouTube channels, the ministry said.

Accessible coverage for viewers

The ministry advised private satellite channels to carry the celebrations using the available Doordarshan signals, including DD Bharati’s interpreted feed, to help make the broadcast accessible to all.

The advisory carries the approval of the competent authority. Copies were also marked to television self-regulatory bodies, electronic media associations, the Broadcast Seva portal and the ministry’s website.
