Sunny Deol to get his own Hanuman film? Ramayana makers planning Ramayana spin-off
New Delhi: Even before Ramayana: Rise of a Legend arrives in theatres, the makers of the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer may already be looking at ways to expand its cinematic world. According to a report by Mid-Day, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra are considering a standalone film centred on Lord Hanuman, with Sunny Deol reportedly being approached to reprise the role in a much bigger capacity.

Sunny plays Lord Hanuman in the upcoming mythological epic, which is scheduled to hit theatres on November 5. While his character is part of the larger Ramayana narrative, the reported spin-off would allow the makers to explore Hanuman’s story beyond what can be covered in the two-part film.
Sunny Deol to get his own Hanuman film?
According to a Mid-day report, work on a potential Hanuman spin-off has already begun. The makers are reportedly keen on having Sunny Deol return for a full-length appearance, although an official announcement about the project is yet to be made.
Explaining why the character could lend himself to a standalone film, a source cited by the publication said, “Hanuman is one of the most important characters in the Ramayana, and there is a lot more to his story than what can be explored within the central narrative.” The project, however, is reportedly not expected to go on floors immediately. The team is said to be planning to take it forward after completing Ramayana: Part 2.
The idea appears to be part of a larger plan to build an interconnected Ramayana universe while allowing individual characters and stories to stand on their own. The source added, “The idea is to make every film its own story but still connected to the bigger universe. Hanuman has the scale and emotional appeal to carry a film on his own.”
If the project materialises, it would give Sunny Deol’s Lord Hanuman considerably more screen space and potentially open another chapter in the franchise beyond the central story of Rama and Sita. For now, however, details about the spin-off, including its director, production timeline and release plans, remain under wraps.
Ramayana gears up for November 5 release
The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, while Yash plays Ravana. Ravie Dubey will be seen as Lakshman, with Sunny Deol taking on the role of Lord Hanuman.

As the release draws closer, the makers have also been unveiling more of the film’s music and visual world. On Sunday, they released Mangal Rang, a song centred on Rama and Sita and their journey towards marriage. Featuring Ranbir and Sai Pallavi, the track moves through sweeping landscapes and elaborate palace settings before offering glimpses of the couple’s wedding celebrations. The song is among the latest promotional releases from the film ahead of its theatrical debut on November 5.
