Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked Near Gurdwara in Nanded, Rushed to Hospital
Former Punjab deputy chief minister and currently serving as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked near a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra on Thursday, August 13, police said.
The information provided on the incident mentioned that it occurring around 1.45pm at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat. He was allegedly attacked by a man with a knife, which injured Badal’s hand. One of the officers from his security team was injured in the process.
One man has been detained by police over the attack. The details of the motive and circumstances of the incident continue to be investigated.

Badal then had to be rushed to a hospital for treatment. He was reported to be “stable and his condition was said to be “stable”. A video of the incident, which has been circulating, showed him entering a building with a cloth over his right hand.
The incident took place with the presence of Badal’s wife and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed an investigation into the attack.
This is the second attack on the leader in the past. The Nanded incident occured two years after Badal managed to escape an attempted attack outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar in December 2024.
During 2024, Badal was carrying out a religious punishment, at which time he was allegedly assassinated by a gunman from near range. One of his guard’s was able to block the gunman’s hand from lowering, saving Badal from being shot.
This strike has renewed worries about the safety of political officials and participants in public and religious venues. Police are continuing to investigate Thursday’s incident to determine the exact nature and motive.
